A free striker and a cheap one
OM are hunting for an attacking fix without spending a penny. L’Equipe reported on Tuesday that Karl Toko Ekambi has already spoken with the Marseille staff and would be willing to sign for a very modest salary.
The 33-year-old Cameroon striker has been out of contract since his spell in Qatar ended. That changes everything on the timing front. A player without a club can still be signed after the transfer window closes.
Foot Mercato had already mentioned the possibility a few days ago. Marseille had put his name among the low-cost attacking options, with several departures in mind.

Genesio had already shut the door
The official line left little room for doubt. “As Gregory Lorenzi and the president said, there will be no signings,” Bruno Genesio said. “We still need two or three exits before maybe one or two arrivals. By Tuesday, that looks difficult. I have to work with the squad I have.”
Those exits never happened. Igor Paixao and three other players are now expected to stay on the Canebiere. The wage bill has not budged, either. The Toko Ekambi file stays alive precisely because he would not cost a transfer fee.
A familiar face for Genesio
The link between the two men is nothing new. Toko Ekambi played under Bruno Genesio at Olympique Lyonnais, where he established himself as a dangerous winger before slipping down the pecking order. The coach knows exactly what he brings and where the flaws are.
Nothing has been signed. The Cameroon international remains an option, not a new arrival. A decision is likely once the window has closed.
