Betis want their 4.5 million back
Olympique Lyonnais need a centre-forward, and the name doing the rounds in Spain was on nobody’s list. Estadio Deportivo and Diario de Sevilla both report that the Rhone club have asked about Gonzalo Petit, a 19-year-old Uruguayan on Real Betis’s books.
He is leaving Andalusia one way or another. Betis have used up their non-EU quota and the squad needs trimming. Talks with the Seville hierarchy are under way, according to those same reports, with Midtjylland the other club pushing hardest.
A sale is what Betis want. They spent 4.5 million euros on him twelve months ago and would rather recoup that than send him out on loan again, though a loan stays on the table if nobody meets the price before the window shuts tomorrow night.

1m91, and not the striker you would expect
Petit spent last season in Spain’s second tier, first at Mirandes, then at Granada. Seven goals in 35 games. Respectable for a teenager at that level, hardly the sort of return that makes scouts drop everything.
He has nine caps and three goals for Uruguay’s Under-20s. Betis list him at 1m91, which usually points to a target man who lives between the posts. He is not that. Petit drops in, links play, works well alongside a second striker and is a real threat from crosses.
Two days to fix an attack
The pressure in Lyon is real. Their Champions League play-off defeat to Fenerbahce shook the project and left the door open for players to walk. Malick Fofana could go for serious money. Nico Tagliafico, Ruben Kluivert, Ernest Nuamah and Pavel Suc are all names being floated.
Keito Nakamura is already earmarked as the Fofana replacement. Up front, Lyon went for Mohamed Amoura and lost out to OGC Nice. Petit is the cheaper answer to the same problem, and cheaper matters right now.
Nothing is signed. The window closes tomorrow.
