Ligue 1: Mathis Amougou joins Toulouse on a season-long loan

No buy option, no strings

Mathis Amougou is moving again. The midfielder is set to join Toulouse Football Club on loan, according to Foot Mercato, and Strasbourg have not attached a purchase option to the deal.

Another name off the Racing wage bill on Monday. The Alsace club are still shaving the squad down with only hours left on the clock.

Amougou spends the full season in the Pink City before returning to Strasbourg, where his contract runs to 2030.

Three professional clubs before his 21st birthday

He came through at AS Saint-Etienne, left the Forez for Chelsea, and was sent to Strasbourg last summer through the pipeline BlueCo runs between its two clubs. All of that before turning 21.

Alsace did not go especially well. Nineteen appearances across all competitions last season, and never a settled place in the XI. The minutes simply never came.

Toulouse should hand him what Strasbourg could not promise. TFC collect young players with upside and then actually play them, a model that has restarted a few careers in the last couple of seasons.

Racing have turned into a selling machine

His exit joins a long list. Strasbourg have wrapped up Guela Doue’s move to Bayer Leverkusen and pushed past 200 million euros in player sales this summer.

Money has gone the other way too, with Conrad Harder and Oso arriving. When a squad turns over that fast, somebody has to lose out on minutes, and Amougou drew the short straw.

Toulouse are busy on their own front. They have an agreement with Feyenoord for Casper Tengstedt, and they have named their price for Yann Gboho, who has no shortage of suitors.
