MLB: Yankees bury Red Sox 16-1 to take the season series

Ramos settles it, the eighth ends it

New York beat Boston 16-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx and claimed the season series, winning seven of the 13 meetings. That hands the Yankees the tiebreaker should the two clubs finish level in October.

Heliot Ramos delivered the decisive swing, a three-run homer that capped a five-run fifth and the biggest hit yet for his new team. Paul Goldschmidt had opened the scoring with a two-run single, an at-bat that survived a Boston challenge. Ceddanne Rafaela came up with the ball on a sinking Jazz Chisholm Jr. liner in center, but umpires ruled it had touched the grass and the original call stood.

Will Warren handled the rest. The right-hander worked seven-plus innings, surrendered one run on six hits and improved to 9-6. Ranger Suarez wore the loss and season highs of six runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.
