MLS: Nashville hammer Cincinnati 4-0 and close in on the points record

The pace points to 80 points. The record is 74.

Inter Miami set that mark in the 2024 regular season. Nashville SC are on course to beat it by six. A fourth win in a row on Saturday, 4-0 against FC Cincinnati, moved them to 16-2-4 and 52 points, ten clear of Miami at the top of the East.

Sam Surridge scored his 13th of the year. Hany Mukhtar got his 10th. Each also laid one on for the other.

Ten shots to one before half-time

Cincinnati were not in it. The first goal landed in the 43rd minute, worked down the right by Cristian Espinoza and Andy Najar, with Espinoza bending a cross to the back post. Surridge climbed over Pavel Bucha and headed it beyond Roman Celentano.

The second came from the opposite flank nine minutes into the second half. Elias Saad won possession in his own half, carried it forward alongside Surridge and cut it back. Mukhtar swept it in low.

Cincinnati, 8-7-7 on 31 points, had been kept off the scoresheet only twice all season before this. The previous occasion was in March.

Two substitutes, two goals, and a fifth heavy defeat

The visitors did push after the interval. Their moment arrived in the 71st, when Brian Schwake parried Ayoub Jabbari’s shot and Maxwell Woledzi got across to hack away the follow-up.

Nashville answered with a flourish. Bryan Acosta struck the far top corner in the 90th after Mukhtar found him outside the area, and Ahmed Qasem rounded off a one-on-one in stoppage time.

That is now five times this season Cincinnati have conceded four or more. Sixth in the East, three points above New York City FC, three behind New England.
