A 2028 sixth-round pick, and a quarterback moves across Florida
A sixth-round pick two years from now. That is what it cost Jacksonville to add a quarterback who has already started NFL games.
The Jaguars have acquired Quinn Ewers from the Miami Dolphins, according to multiple reports late Monday night, with ESPN putting the return at a 2028 sixth-rounder. Nobody is calling it a blockbuster.
The timing is not random. All 32 teams have until Sunday’s deadline to cut down to 53 players, and the churn has been rolling since Friday. Backup quarterback is usually one of the last rooms a team settles.

622 yards, and a depth chart with holes in it
Miami took Ewers in the seventh round of the 2025 draft. The Texas product appeared in four games as a rookie and started three, throwing for 622 yards with three touchdowns, three picks and an 85.5 passer rating.
Nothing there says franchise quarterback. It does say more than what Jacksonville had sitting behind Trevor Lawrence. Nick Mullens is 31 and carries a 5-15 record as a starter. Carter Bradley and Joey Aguilar have never taken a regular-season snap between them. Ewers, at 23, walks into that.
Miami down to three arms
The Dolphins are left with Malik Willis, signed in the off-season, plus Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski. So Miami have traded away the one backup with real game reps and kept two who have none, banking on Willis and pocketing a late pick.
The clubs sit in different conferences and may not cross paths all year. What happens next is simpler than that: Ewers either makes the 53 in Jacksonville by Sunday or he does not.
