Ligue 1: Marseille eye Almeria right-back Daijiro Chirino

Thirty-six games in Segunda, and a queue forming

Marca have put Daijiro Chirino on Marseille’s list. The 24-year-old right-back is at Almeria, in the Spanish second tier, and OM are said to be watching him closely.

The Dutch defender moved to Andalusia a year ago from Castellon. Thirty-six appearances last season, three goals, one assist. A full campaign, no gaps.

Marseille are not on their own here. Marca mention a La Liga club and a Serie A side circling the same player.

Sell first. Then talk.

That order is not optional. Marca spell it out: OM have to move players off the wage bill before anyone else joins it, and several exits are still hanging.

Until those are settled, every incoming name is a conversation rather than a deal. Chirino is one of those names.

He fits the brief, though. A right-back who has just done a full season in one of Europe’s most physical leagues costs a fraction of what the same profile fetches in Ligue 1 or the Premier League. Nobody is calling it a marquee signing. Nobody at Marseille is pretending to want one right now either.

Interest is not an offer

No bid has been tabled as far as anyone knows. This is a Spanish outlet’s reporting, and Marseille have said nothing.

The calendar is the enemy. Tuesday closes the window, and moves like this get done in an afternoon or not at all. If OM want him, the sales have to come first, and quickly.
