Hull City thought it had a deal done
It was all lined up. Or almost.
Newly promoted Hull City had an advanced agreement with AS Roma for Robinio Vaz: a 2 M€ loan fee, plus a 30 M€ option to buy. The Tigers have already spent close to 90 M€ since the market opened, and Mohamed-Ali Cho landed this week. The spree has not slowed down.
The player hesitated. A loan, at 19, months after a transfer worth more than 25 M€, is not the easiest thing to accept. Then he gave the green light to explore an exit.
That is when it started to wobble.
Try it for $0.99.
The English push woke everyone else up
According to Foot Mercato, Hull’s concrete move set phones ringing across the continent. Ligue 1 clubs made contact, Lorient asked for information. The Bundesliga appeared. PSV Eindhoven are keen from the Eredivisie.
Roma are not complaining. The club will sanction a season-long loan as long as they recoup their original outlay in a future sale. More clubs at the table suits them fine.
Vaz still has not said yes to Hull. He wants to hear everything before deciding, and his condition is not a secret: guaranteed minutes, and a head coach who actually wants him.
Fourteen games, and already at a crossroads
A quick reminder of how fast this has moved. He left Olympique de Marseille last winter for the Eternal City, more than 25 M€, with the label of a serious talent stitched onto him. Since then: 14 appearances in Roma colours, and a first call-up to the France U20s.
Fourteen matches in half a season, at that level and that age, is neither a disaster nor a breakthrough. It sits in the awkward middle. The competition in Rome is real, the European calendar is heavy, and a 19-year-old forward fighting for scraps does not develop on the bench.
Four days to decide. Hull, Ligue 1, Germany or the Netherlands. This window has already proved it can turn over in a single night.
