The LFP rules, and makes it worse
The competitions commission handed down its verdict this afternoon. Stade Rennais against Paris SG on matchday 23, set for the weekend of 6 March 2027, will not be played at Roazhon Park. It goes to the Parc des Princes.
Some context. PSG had already won a reversal of their opening fixture on 19 August, after their pitch was ruled unplayable following the heatwave. Rennes then scrambled to stage the Paris side’s visit in four days. A logistical headache the Breton club felt should at least have bought them the original fixture list.
The commission saw it differently. It has reversed the return fixture too, and hit Paris with a 150,000 euro fine under article 501.4 of the competition regulations, which covers clubs’ obligations on pitch suitability and backup stadiums.

Rennes are heading to the CNOSF
The Breton response came fast. In a statement on its website, SRFC says it is considering taking the case to the conciliation committee of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee once the reasoned decision arrives.
That is the standard route for challenging a federation or league decision in France before any appeal to the administrative courts. It does not suspend the ruling. It does force the LFP to spell out its reasoning.
At his news conference, Franck Haise went with irony rather than a full attack. “There might be a heatwave in March. I will let the club answer that one.” The Rennes boss had other things on his mind, with his side hosting Le Mans in two days.
The precedent is the real story
Beyond the tug-of-war between two clubs, this ruling sets a rule. A club whose pitch is declared unplayable can get a match switched, then keep the return fixture at home, provided it pays a fine.
Ligue 1 clubs with fragile pitches in August will be reading this one carefully. Rennes lose a home game against the league’s biggest draw, along with the money and the atmosphere that come with it. The next move belongs to the conciliators.
