Serie A: Leganes want Morata, but Como would have to pay for it

A lead from the second tier

CD Leganes are interested in Alvaro Morata. The report comes from Sky Sport Italia. The Spanish club are in LaLiga Hypermotion, the second division, and want to take advantage of a situation that has stalled.

The striker belongs to Como. His future is still up in the air after a poor season in Italy. One goal, one assist, 26 appearances in Serie A. The numbers do not exactly make a convincing case, and the Lombardy club never really worked out how to use him.

The wages are the real problem

The deal runs into one number. Morata earns around 5 million euros a year. A second-tier Spanish club cannot take on that sort of money alone.

For the move to happen, Como would have to cover part of his salary. So Leganes need to talk the Lariani into chipping in. For now, there is no sign the Italian club are willing to do that, and no sign the player has given any kind of green light. At this stage, it is still just a possibility.

A CV that now looks a long way off

Morata has worn the shirts of Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan. A Spain international, he spent years as a regular at the top level in Europe and played a central role for his country.

A return to Spain through the second division would mark a sharp shift. For Leganes, it would be a calculated gamble on a name and on experience, not on the numbers from the last 12 months.

The transfer window closes in a few days. Time is running against both clubs.
