Fight week, and the champion is not blinking
Chantelle Cameron has spent months hearing that Mikaela Mayer belongs in the pound-for-pound conversation. She does not argue with it. She just does not think it matters on Saturday.
“I’m heading into fight week in such a good place, confident and knowing that it’s going to take someone really good and special to beat me, and I just don’t think that’s Mikaela,” the WBO super welterweight champion told Sky Sports.
The two meet at the bp pulse LIVE arena in Birmingham with the WBO, WBA and WBC super welterweight titles all on the table. Cameron brings a 22-1 record and eight knockouts. Mayer, who owns the WBC and WBA belts, arrives at 22-2 with five stoppages.

The Katie Taylor line still hangs over everything
Cameron is the only fighter to have beaten Katie Taylor. That result trails her into every build-up, and she knows beating Mayer would not push it off the top of her own list.
“It’s going to be obviously massive. I am the only one to beat Katie Taylor, so that is going to be hard to top,” she said. “Everyone’s tried, but nobody has actually got that win against her, whereas I have. Mikaela’s a great fighter, pound for pound, one of the best. This will be my second highest achievement.”
She refuses to dress it up as a formality. Cameron puts the fight at 52 per cent to 48 per cent in her favour and expects to be dragged into deep water before she gets what she wants.
“This is not going to be an easy fight by all means. It’s going to be a tough, tough fight, but I know what I’m capable of and I’m excited to execute it,” she said. “When I have this little bite in me, I just think nobody’s staying with me.”
A card built as UK against USA
MVPW-06 puts a British fighter opposite an American opponent in every bout on the main card, and Caroline Dubois features alongside the main event. Cameron sounds like a fighter who has already run the night through in her head.
“I really do believe this is going to be a great performance by me. I think it’s going to be my best performance of my career,” she said. “I feel like everything’s gone well and there’s no reason for it to fall apart on fight night.”
