Malen needs 33 minutes for three goals
Donyell Malen opened his Serie A account on 27 minutes and completed the hat-trick on 60. Roma beat Fiorentina 4-0 at the Stadio Olimpico to close the opening matchday, and Paulo Dybala supplied all three assists.
Dybala found him for the first, repeated it seven minutes into the second half, and set up the third eight minutes after that. Niccolo Pisilli came off the bench to add the fourth. Fiorentina never got the game back to one goal after the interval.

Grosso’s first night ends flat
Fabio Grosso took the Fiorentina job this summer after Paolo Vanoli was moved on. Monday was his first competitive match in charge and it returned nothing. The Viola have not won at the Stadio Olimpico since 2018, and this visit did not disturb that run.
Roma carried the numbers into kickoff. They finished last season third on 73 points, closed with five straight wins and returned to the Champions League after eight years away. Gian Piero Gasperini built it on a defence that kept 18 clean sheets in Serie A, 11 of them at home, a home total no club in Europe’s five biggest leagues bettered.
A summer that suggested otherwise
Gasperini’s pre-season had been uneven. Roma drew with Cannes and Dortmund, lost to Cardiff and Brighton, and worked a transfer window that moved slowly. He said before the match that last season’s 73 points had to be earned again from zero, and that the opening five fixtures looked awkward on paper.
Matteo Marcenaro refereed. Fiorentina leave Rome with a goal difference of minus four and a manager still hunting a first point.
