Spurs thought they had this one to themselves
For weeks, Tottenham worked the Cody Gakpo file without a rival in sight. That changed on Monday. Manchester City have entered the hunt, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, and Fabrizio Romano says early contact has already taken place between City officials and the player’s camp.
Gakpo is 27. His Liverpool deal runs to 2030.

Anfield is not slamming the door
Liverpool are not fighting to keep him. The Reds have reportedly accepted the idea of the Dutch international, capped 54 times, moving on this month.
Follow the money and it makes sense. Liverpool are still trying to close moves for Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye before the window shuts, and selling Gakpo would give the accounts some room to breathe.
City could lose two wingers before they sign one
Ayyoub Bouaddi is close to arriving from Lille. That does not fix the wide areas.
Omar Marmoush and Savinho are both on their way to Tottenham, with both exits expected within hours. City may end Monday two wingers lighter while the club they are bidding against gets deeper.
Which leaves two English sides chasing the same man. The fee is where it stalls. Nothing has leaked on that front yet.
