Ligue 1: Strasbourg hold out for 40M on Guela Doue

A 170 million summer

Strasbourg have spent the summer cashing in. The Alsace club, forced to straighten out the books, have banked close to 170 million euros since the window opened. Diego Moreira went for 50 M€ before bonuses, Valentin Barco for 40 M€, Julio Enciso for 30,5 M€, Abdoul Ouattara for 20 M€. Four deals, more than 140 M€.

For a club that was in Ligue 2 a few seasons ago, the number is dizzying. It also lays bare the BlueCo machine at full tilt: buy young, build value fast, sell high. The downside is a dressing room that empties quicker than it can be rebuilt.

Doue, 23 and three years left on his deal

A week out from deadline day, RCSA remain open to more exits. Guela Doue is one of them. The 23-year-old right-back still has three years to run in Alsace, but the message on Monday morning was blunt: a serious bid lands, the club steps aside.

Desire Doue’s older brother had been linked with Inter once Denzel Dumfries moved to Real Madrid. The Nerazzurri went for Djed Spence instead. That door shut about as fast as it opened.

Leverkusen are testing the waters

According to Kicker, Bayer Leverkusen are circling. The German paper is quick to cool things down, because the price is the problem. Strasbourg want 40 M€ for their defender, exactly what they took for Barco.

Forty million for a 23-year-old right-back who has never played a Champions League minute is a hefty gamble, especially for a German club that has done plenty of selling of its own these past two years. Leverkusen have a week to work out whether that number can move. Strasbourg have already filled the coffers and no reason to blink.
