A defender’s goal and not much else
Gleison Bremer. One goal. That was the lot from Juventus at Frosinone.
It was enough. 1-0, three points, opening day of Serie A done.
Nobody in Turin is dressing this up as a night to remember. Juve had the chances and fluffed them, and then, in the 93rd minute, a Frosinone effort came back off the post. Seasons have turned on less.
Try it for $0.99.
Spalletti did not bother hiding it
Luciano Spalletti went in front of the DAZN cameras and talked about Randal Kolo Muani without softening a word.
“We went after him, we looked after him, we know what he’s worth,” the coach said. Then the harder part: “He needs to understand he hasn’t played for two years, and there is a reason.” The French striker had space in front of him. He did not score.
Spalletti also let slip that the club is still chasing somebody “with different characteristics”. Read that how you like. Juventus are not finished in the market.
On the performance he was no gentler. “The team showed it has an identity, but it made mistakes. We are not good at showing determination, and we’ll work on that.”
Then Vicario went down
Guglielmo Vicario limped off. The goalkeeper joined Juventus this summer and his first Serie A appearance for the club lasted less than a full match. No word yet on how serious it is.
Frosinone are left with the post and the regret. Their coach had set them up to scrap and concede nothing cheap, and it worked for 93 minutes minus one goal.
Juventus win. They do not convince.
