A mirror-image contest in Udine
Udinese and Como played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at the BluEnergy Stadium on the opening day of Serie A. Kamara put the Friulians ahead in the 29th minute. Douvikas levelled things up in the 54th.
The game followed a pretty familiar pattern. Udinese started better, took their best chance and went in at the break in front. Como came out with more intent and found the equaliser less than 10 minutes after the restart. After that, neither side really fancied much risk.

Two clubs playing the same hand
The point does not tell us much about the true level of either side, but it does say plenty about their ambitions. Como have been building a heavily backed project for several seasons now and make no secret of their aim to finish in the top half. Taking a point in Udine on day one fits that plan.
Udinese, meanwhile, are sticking to their usual model. The Friuli club buys young, sells high and spends every season aiming for a calm, unremarkable survival bid without ever really getting dragged into trouble. They have just sent Abdoulaye Camara out on loan to Ajax, another sign of a sporting policy geared more towards asset growth than instant results.
An opening round running at two speeds
In the other 6.30pm fixture, Inter swept Monza aside 4-1. The rest of the round continues on Sunday, with Atalanta against Sassuolo, Torino hosting AC Milan and Frosinone welcoming Juventus.
A point each. Whether that reads as a decent night’s work or a missed opportunity depends entirely on where these two are sitting in May.
