Six innings, zero runs, one award race
Milwaukee got the pitching duel it was promised. Jacob Misiorowski worked six shutout innings against the Atlanta Braves overnight, allowed four hits and two walks, struck out six, and left with a 2-1 lead the Brewers never gave back.
On the other side stood Chris Sale, the man most voters would have listed above him in April. Sale went six innings of his own, gave up two runs on eight hits, struck out six and walked nobody. The difference between the two lines was a single run, and it went to the 24-year-old.
Misiorowski moved to 13-5. Sale dropped to 12-9. For reference, the National League wins leader this season is Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sanchez at 16, which puts Misiorowski firmly in a conversation nobody had him in twelve months ago.

Contreras did the rest
William Contreras collected four hits and drove in a run, the kind of night that quietly decides a 2-1 game. Trevor Megill handled the ninth, worked around a two-out single and banked his 24th save of the year.
The win was Milwaukee’s fifth in six games. Atlanta, by contrast, has now lost four of five. Michael Harris II and Mauricio Dubon each had two hits for the Braves, but the visitors never strung enough together against a fastball that has been sitting in triple digits since Misiorowski arrived in the majors.
What it changes
Late August is when rotations get judged. Misiorowski has spent his first full season answering the question of whether raw velocity survives a 30-start workload, and a scoreless start against a lineup carrying Sale’s name on the mound is a strong data point in his favour.
For Atlanta the arithmetic is harsher. Losing a game their ace pitched well in, on the road, in the final stretch, costs more than a single line in the standings. Sale has given the Braves quality; the offence behind him produced one run against a pitcher who had never faced this kind of pressure before this year.
