Cavalli keeps the zeros coming
Cade Cavalli went six innings overnight in Arlington, struck out 11, allowed three hits and one walk, and needed just 84 pitches to do it. Washington beat Texas 6-0 and snapped a four-game losing streak.
The scoreless run now sits at 17 innings. Cavalli carried a no-hitter into the seventh of his previous start, against the Chicago Cubs on 13 August, and finished that night with eight shutout innings. He improved to 11-5.
Zoom out and the stretch looks even better. Over his past 10 starts Cavalli is 7-1 with a 2.12 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings. Texas put runners on first and second with one out in the second and he answered by striking out Elias Diaz and Nicky Lopez.

Chaparro does the damage
Andres Chaparro collected three hits, scored three runs and closed the scoring with a three-run homer, his eighth of the season, lofted down the left field line in the seventh. Jose Tena had opened the account in the third, sending an 0-1 sinker 415 feet to center for his seventh long ball.
Keibert Ruiz added two hits and an RBI. The Nationals manufactured the middle of the game rather than slugging through it: Chaparro doubled and scored on a Ruiz single in the fourth, then singles from Chaparro and Ruiz in the sixth were followed by a Jacob Young bunt and a slow roller that brought another run home.
Will Dion, Max Kranick and Jake Bird each handled a scoreless inning to finish off a four-hit shutout. Washington had lost six of seven coming in.
Texas keeps sliding
The Rangers had taken the series opener 5-0 on Tuesday and now have lost six of their past eight. Kumar Rocker fell to 4-10, giving up two runs on six hits across five innings with three strikeouts and one walk.
Corey Seager kept producing, recording his third straight two-hit game. Around him the lineup went quiet, managing four hits all night against a pitcher who has spent the past two months making that look routine.
