A new record at receiver
Seattle paid up, and then some. Jaxon Smith-Njigba has signed a four-year extension worth $168.6 million, or $42.15 million a season. No receiver had ever landed a bigger deal in NFL history.
The contract includes more than $120 million guaranteed, another record at the position. Smith-Njigba was 24 when he put pen to paper.
Last season explains the number. The receiver finished 2025 with 1,793 receiving yards, the best total in the league, and a second straight year with more than 100 catches. He was named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year, then lifted Super Bowl LX with the Seahawks.

The non-quarterback market keeps exploding
The previous receiver benchmark belonged to Justin Jefferson. The Vikings star signed a four-year, $140 million deal in 2024, including $110 million guaranteed. It took just two years for the receiver ceiling to jump from $35 million to $42.15 million a season.
Elsewhere on the field, the numbers keep climbing. Micah Parsons holds the biggest total contract for a non-quarterback, four years and $186 million signed in Green Bay in 2025. Will Anderson has gone higher on an annual basis. The Texans defensive end is on $50 million per season over three years and $150 million, including $134 million guaranteed, since April 2026.
The quarterbacks still run the show
The catch-up game is still limited. The 15 biggest total contracts in NFL history all belong to quarterbacks. You have to drop to 16th to find another position, Parsons’ spot.
Patrick Mahomes leads the way on $504.75 million over eight years. Josh Allen follows on $330 million, with Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence on $275 million apiece.
For Seattle, the logic is straightforward. The franchise locks up its No. 1 offensive weapon just after a title, at an age when receivers usually hit their peak. Pretty simple really.
