Nine officials to kick off the season
Ligue 1 is back this weekend of August 21. The match officials for the opening round were announced this afternoon. Nine names, nine fixtures.
Ruddy Buquet gets the marquee clash between Marseille and Strasbourg. Bastien Dechepy will take charge of PSG-Stade Rennais. Mathieu Vernice handles Lens-Auxerre, Marc Bollengier is on Troyes-Paris FC, and Guillaume Paradis has been assigned to Toulouse-OL.
The other four games complete the picture. Aurélien Petit will be in charge of Le Mans-Brest, with the newly promoted Manceaux at home. Romain Lissorgue takes Nice-Lorient, Jérémy Stinat handles Angers-Lille and Jérémie Pignard oversees Le Havre-Monaco.

A refereeing team already under the microscope
The list comes at a tricky time. The Champions Trophy between Lens and PSG, won 1-0 by the Sang et Or, left its mark. The officiating in that game sparked several rows, and the LFP found itself in the firing line in the days that followed.
Buquet and Dechepy land the two most high-profile fixtures. Marseille-Strasbourg pits two sides chasing Europe. PSG-Rennes gets the reigning champions back at home, just days after their disappointment against Lens.
What it means for the restart
The appointments give clubs and punters an early reference point. A referee’s profile can shape the number of yellow cards and penalties given, two markets that are closely watched at the start of the season, when there is still little form data to go on.
The schedule does not ease up. Toulouse-OL comes just days after Lyon’s first-leg Champions League play-off at Fenerbahce. Le Mans, fresh up from the lower tier, begin their campaign in front of their own fans against Brest.
