Back where he started
Three and a half years after swapping Bodø for Brittany, Joel Mvuka is going home. FC Lorient confirmed the 23-year-old Norwegian midfielder’s exit on Tuesday afternoon. It is a permanent deal, not another loan.
“Joel Mvuka has signed for FK Bodø/Glimt. After arriving at Les Merlus in January 2023, Joel Mvuka is now back with the Norwegian side from Bodø/Glimt. FC Lorient thanks Joel Mvuka for his commitment in the club’s colours and wishes him every success for the rest of his career,” the Brittany club said.

Fifty-five appearances, and never a regular
Mvuka played 55 times for Lorient. Thirty of those came in Ligue 2, during the relegation season, which says plenty about where he sat in the pecking order. He never nailed down a starting spot at either level.
So the club shipped him out. Young Boys in Bern first, then Celtic in Glasgow. Neither loan turned into a permanent move, and he came back each time to the same situation he had left behind.
Lorient still have trimming to do
Bodø/Glimt get back a player they developed themselves. The Norwegian club has grown into a genuine European regular over the past few seasons, which makes this a different proposition from the one Mvuka walked away from in January 2023. For Lorient, the departure lightens a squad that needs cutting down before the window shuts on September 1.
