A complete night
A single, a double, a home run. Three RBIs, four runs scored. Bobby Witt Jr. checked every box Monday night in Kansas City as the Royals took the opener of a four-game series 9-5 against the Athletics.
The shortstop went deep in the second inning for the second game running, pushing it to 5-1. Kansas City have won three of their last four.

Caglianone and Garcia chip in
Jac Caglianone had three hits, drove in two and scored once. Maikel Garcia was back in the starting lineup for the first time since June 22, recovered from a left hand strain, and produced two hits, an RBI and a run in his first game back.
Michael Wacha (6-8) went five innings and gave up four runs on six hits. It was his first win in 10 starts. The right-hander walked nobody, the third time that has happened in his last four outings.
Barnett could not get out of the third
Mason Barnett (1-4) lasted two and two-thirds. Six runs, seven hits, four walks. Jeff McNeil had handed the Athletics the perfect start with a home run on the first pitch of the game.
Kansas City answered in their first trip to the plate. Garcia tied it with a hit the other way, then Salvador Perez dumped a two-run single into center. Kyle Isbel made it 6-1 in the third and ended Barnett’s night.
The Athletics got two back in the fifth on home runs from Tommy White and Brian Serven, right after Wacha had retired 10 straight. Witt scored following a stolen base in the sixth, then added another run with a double in the eighth. Steven Cruz closed it out in the ninth with a double play for his fifth save.
