A Texas homecoming
Von Miller has signed with the Dallas Cowboys. The linebacker broke the news himself on Sunday night on Instagram, backing it up with a photo in a Cowboys jersey and a “Hereee Weee Gooo” caption. ESPN had reported the move a few minutes earlier. The franchise confirmed it shortly after, without revealing the terms of the deal.
Miller was born in Texas and played at Texas A&M. So this is a return to familiar ground. In March, he decided to test free agency after just one season with the Washington Commanders. It will be his third team in three years, and his 15th NFL season.

138,5 sacks and still top of the active list
At 37, Miller is still the most productive pass rusher left in the league. His 138,5 career sacks put him first among active players and tied for ninth on the all-time list. The No. 2 pick in the 2011 draft has cleared six sacks in every season apart from two.
The rest of the resume is just as nasty: 607 tackles, 271 quarterback hits, 177 tackles for loss, 27 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries and two interceptions in 203 games, 164 of them starts. Two Super Bowl rings, including Super Bowl 50 MVP. Eight Pro Bowl selections too, though none since 2019.
Denver from 2011 to 2021, the Rams for the run-in to the 2021 season, Buffalo from 2022 to 2024, Washington last year. The sort of player you call when you need to ruin a quarterback’s day.
A defense crying out for help
Dallas has missed the playoffs for two straight seasons. The problem is obvious: in 2025, the Cowboys defense finished tied for 22nd in the NFL with just 35 sacks. That was due in part to Micah Parsons’ departure for Green Bay last August.
Miller isn’t 25 anymore and nobody in Dallas is pretending otherwise. But on third-and-long, a player with this kind of pedigree changes the picture. The question is how many snaps he can still handle over 16 weeks.
