A departure is set, but the destination is still up in the air
Joao Palhinha is no longer part of Bayern Munich’s plans. His exit is now being treated as a done deal on the Bavarian side, following the three departures Vincent Kompany had already confirmed. The only problem left is the one holding everything up: where next?
Aston Villa were the first club to make a move, with interest described as serious. But the talks have stalled. According to Foot Mercato, the terms on the table do not satisfy the Munich hierarchy, who are refusing to let a Portugal international holding midfielder go on the cheap.

Newcastle back in, Benfica watching
The situation has shifted in the last few hours. Newcastle have reportedly made fresh contact with the player’s camp in an effort to persuade him, while Benfica are keeping a closer eye on events from the sidelines. Fabrizio Romano says a move to a new Premier League challenge is starting to look like the preferred option.
That said, nothing is signed and no club has said a word publicly. Even so, the number of clubs circling in just a few days tells you plenty about Palhinha’s standing after a strong loan spell at Tottenham.
The London loan changed everything
And that’s the twist in all this. Palhinha had slipped to the fringes at Munich, then his spell at Tottenham restored much of his market value, and Bayern now want to cash in properly. Clubs never do better business than when they are selling a player they no longer want but everybody else does.
The transfer window is in its final stretch. Bayern still hold the upper hand on price, if not on timing. Every passing day drags Munich closer to a decision: take less cash, or keep an unwanted player around for another season.
