Indiana Fever players celebrate a WNBA win over the New York Liberty

WNBA: Fever rout Liberty to move top of the East

Indiana turns Gainbridge into a shooting gallery

Sixty-four points before halftime. That was Indiana’s answer to a New York side that had walked in on a four-game winning streak. The Fever ran the Liberty off the floor on Tuesday night and never let them back into it, closing out a 106-92 win at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The three-point line did the damage. Indiana hit 16 of its 25 attempts from deep and shot 54 percent overall. By the break the lead was 18, and New York spent the rest of the night chasing a game that had already slipped away.

Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston combined for 69 points. When those three find their range on the same night, there is not much a defense can do.

Mitchell and Clark carry the load

Mitchell poured in 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting and went a perfect 4 for 4 from three. She has now scored at least 20 in 17 straight games, a run that has become the backbone of Indiana’s season.

Clark ran everything around her. She finished with 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting, drilled four of her eight looks from range and handed out a game-high 10 assists. Boston did the interior work with 18 points, and the Fever never needed a fourth scorer to step up.

Top of the East

Indiana climbs to 21-12, 12-6 at home, and moves to the top of the Eastern Conference. The Fever have won seven of their last nine. New York drops to 20-14 and watches a four-game winning run end in a building where it never once looked settled.
