Palestra has made his choice and he is standing by it
Marco Palestra made his call, and he is owning it. The Italian right-back left Atalanta this summer to join Chelsea in a deal worth around 55 million euros, signing through 2033. Inter had been watching him closely too, with plans to hand him Denzel Dumfries’ old job. The 21-year-old picked London instead.
A few weeks in, he has no interest in raking over the behind-the-scenes noise. “As for the talks between Atalanta, Inter and Chelsea, I do not want to dwell on the past. I am focused on this season,” he said.

A bet he is happy to back in the Premier League
The defender is not hiding behind excuses. Chelsea will not play in the Champions League this season. He knows it, and he has accepted it. “I chose Chelsea because it is one of the biggest clubs in the world. There are a lot of top teams in the Premier League, and I am sure we will have a great season,” he said.
His settling-in already looks well under way. “I am really happy to be here. From day one, I felt comfortable with the coach and the team,” he added, just hours before a friendly against AC Milan.
A work in progress under Xabi Alonso
Palestra has landed at a club still being built piece by piece. Xabi Alonso is stamping his ideas on the London dugout. Chelsea have gone big on youth and long-term bets, and the eight-year deal handed to the full-back says it all. Now it is on him to seize the chance in a right side packed with rivals.
