A running back paid to stay
Jonathan Taylor wanted to be a Colt for life, and Indianapolis moved Thursday morning to make the first part of that promise real. Multiple reports pegged the extension at two years and $44 million, with incentives that can push it to $47 million and $39 million guaranteed, per ESPN. The new money sits on top of the season Taylor already had left on his previous contract.
The timing carries weight. Taylor reported to training camp ready to practice despite the expiring deal, sidestepping the kind of standoff that has soured running back negotiations elsewhere in the league. The three-time Pro Bowl selection is 27 and still inside the productive window that makes a commitment like this defensible.

Chasing Edgerrin James
History sits within reach. Taylor is 1,628 rushing yards behind Pro Football Hall of Famer Edgerrin James for the Colts’ franchise record, a mark he can realistically pass across the two years he just signed for. He arrived as the 41st overall pick out of Wisconsin in 2020 and has piled up 32 total touchdowns and more than 3,000 yards over the past two seasons.
Indianapolis keeps spending
Taylor follows quarterback Daniel Jones and receiver Alec Pierce into the offseason payday line. Pierce signed a four-year, $114 million deal to become the No. 1 target after Indianapolis traded Michael Pittman Jr. to Pittsburgh, while Jones, first held on the franchise tag, later agreed to two years and $88 million. Jones is still working back from a torn Achilles suffered in his first season with the club.
