Manchester United appoint Eva Olid
Manchester United have a new face in charge of their women’s side. The club appointed Spaniard Eva Olid this week. She replaces Marc Skinner, who left by mutual consent on Monday.
Olid is 40 and made her name in Scotland. She arrived at Hearts in 2021 and turned a side heading for relegation into champions. The Scottish Women’s Premier League title came in 2025-26, the first in the club’s history.
The rise has been steady. Hearts finished with 20 points in 2021-22, then 49, 54, 59 and 62 last season. Every year, the bar went up.

A possession coach who can flip the switch
Olid backs a possession game. The ball comes first for her. But her Hearts team could also hit fast. The club finished top of their league for direct attacks (53) and second for quick counters (22).
Her ideas fit United’s squad. Dominique Janssen and Hinata Miyazawa both like to keep the ball moving. Janssen posted an 88.4 per cent pass completion rate last season, with Miyazawa at 88.0 per cent. Enough to build from the back.
One detail stands out: the age of her title-winning group. Hearts had an average age of under 24. Winning a title with players that young is still rare.

The move is no accident. Skinner wanted more investment in the market. The club, meanwhile, wants to lean on youth development and young players. Olid ticks that box.
Manchester United are targeting a WSL title by 2028. Skinner took the club from fourth to fourth, with an FA Cup along the way. Olid arrives with a reputation as a builder. The gamble is on.
