Dowman steals the show in Catalonia
Sixteen years old, and already the best player on the pitch. Max Dowman ran the show as Arsenal opened pre-season with a 4-1 win at Girona on Saturday, scoring once and setting up another at the Estadi Montilivi.
Dowman’s turn and through-ball teed up Kai Havertz for the opener, the striker slotting a calm finish past the goalkeeper. New signing Christos Tzolis doubled the lead on debut, his effort taking a deflection on its way in. The Gunners were coasting.

Girona’s brief reply
The hosts found a way back five minutes after the break. Arnau Martinez rose to head in Kim Min-su’s corner, and for a moment Girona had a game. It did not last.
Dowman restored the three-goal cushion with a strike from outside the box, curling home to make it 3-1. Gabriel Jesus finished the job on 55 minutes, tapping in after more slick Arsenal build-up.
Signs of a deep squad
Tzolis marked his debut with a goal, Jesus took his chance in front of goal, and Dowman announced himself as one to watch this season. Pre-season results rarely mean much. A performance like this one still gives Mikel Arteta plenty to weigh before the real work begins.
