Sabrina Ionescu leads the New York Liberty to a 94-92 win over the Phoenix Mercury

WNBA: Ionescu drives Liberty past Mercury 94-92

Ionescu runs the show

Sabrina Ionescu decided this one. Twenty-seven points, ten assists, and a New York Liberty side that refused to blink in a 94-92 win over the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday.

New York went a perfect 19 for 19 from the free-throw line. In a two-point game, that number was the difference.

Phoenix pushed to the end

The Mercury had every chance. DeWanna Bonner and Kahleah Copper poured in 25 apiece, Alyssa Thomas added 17, and Phoenix hung around until the final possession. It still came up short.

Han Xu lifted New York off the bench with 17, and Breanna Stewart posted 14 points and 11 rebounds to steady the champions when the game tightened.

Standings watch

New York climbs to 17-13 and stays in touch near the top of the league. Phoenix slips to 11-19 and now has to turn frustration into wins before the season gets away from them.
