Four wins in San Sebastian, a first for anyone
Remco Evenepoel won the Clasica San Sebastian this afternoon, beating Richard Carapaz in a two-up sprint. It was the fourth time he has taken the race.
No rider had ever done that. Evenepoel now stands alone as the only four-time winner of the Basque classic. The 45th edition carries his name.
He arrived here fresh off a huge Tour de France. That form carried straight onto the roads of Guipuzcoa.

Carapaz pushed, and it still wasn’t enough
The Ecuadorian emptied the tank in the finale. He clung to Evenepoel over the closing climbs and refused to let go. It did not matter.
Evenepoel picked his moment. He wound up the sprint and had it won before the line ever came into view.
The Vuelta is next
This result launches Evenepoel into the back end of his season. La Vuelta a Espana is around the corner. He will ride into it carrying every bit of this confidence.
