Twelve games later, Miami finally exhales
The Miami Marlins had not won a baseball game since July 9. Twelve losses stacked up after that, a franchise record, and on Monday they stood three outs from a thirteenth. Then Griffin Conine lined a walk-off single to cap a three-run ninth and beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8-7.
Miami trailed 7-5 heading into its last at-bat. Jakob Marsee singled up the middle, Otto Lopez singled to right, and Jhoan Duran plunked Kyle Stowers to load the bases. Heriberto Hernandez tied the game with a single up the middle off Duran, a closer who had blown just one save all season before this one. Conine, who had already homered earlier in the night, supplied the final swing.

Harper and Wheeler could not hold it
Philadelphia looked set to leave Miami on the right side of the result. Bryce Harper cracked an early two-run homer and J.T. Realmuto drove in two more. The trouble started on the mound. Zack Wheeler lasted three innings and gave up a season-high five runs on six hits, handing the Marlins a lead the Phillies spent the rest of the night chasing. Philadelphia has now lost seven of its past ten since the All-Star break, a slide that turns a settled summer into an uneasy one.
What a record streak really costs
A 12-game skid is more than a rough fortnight. It is the longest losing run in the history of a franchise that began play in 1993, and it pushed the Marlins further out of a National League race they were already watching from the edges. Snapping it with a walk-off, against a contender, at least resets the mood in the clubhouse. Hernandez and Conine both went deep, and Miami leaves with a reminder that the lineup can still finish what it starts.
