The Cubs roll in St. Louis
Fourteen hits. That is what Chicago dropped on St. Louis in a 7-3 win to open the series Monday night. Alex Bregman and Nico Hoerner led the charge, each finishing with four hits and a home run.
Bregman tacked on two doubles and drove in a pair. Hoerner cleared the bases for four RBIs of his own. The top of the Cubs order did whatever it wanted.

Peterson keeps it steady
David Peterson gave Chicago five and two-thirds innings. Two runs, three strikeouts, and a bump to 6-7 on the year. Nothing flashy, just enough.
Jose Fermin got one back for the Cardinals with a solo shot. It barely registered. St. Louis has now dropped eight of eleven since the All-Star break, and the slide is starting to look like a pattern.
Momentum back in gear
Three wins in four for the Cubs. Rain pushed the first pitch back nearly two hours. Once they got going, none of that mattered.
