Mahle turns back the Brewers
Three hits. That was the entire Milwaukee output against Tyler Mahle overnight in San Francisco. The right-hander worked six-plus innings, leaned on three double plays and never let a Brewers runner reach third base. The Giants took the opener of a three-game set 3-0.
Mahle (3-9) had to grind for it. Jake Bauers and Andrew Vaughn reached on early singles, Vaughn and Cooper Pratt drew walks, and each time the veteran wiped the trouble away. Garrett Mitchell bounced into an inning-ending double play in the second, and the rhythm held from there.
He exited in the seventh after Jackson Chourio led off with a single. Sam Hentges retired the next three to close the frame, Dylan Smith handled a 1-2-3 eighth, and Erik Miller struck out two in a perfect ninth for his third save.

McCray provides the punch
San Francisco found the lead in the third. Jesus Rodriguez doubled to open the inning and Luis Arraez lined an RBI single behind him. Brandon Sproat (3-6) was already under pressure.
Grant McCray settled it in the fourth. With Willy Adames aboard on a two-out single, the outfielder drove his first homer of the season into the seats, the sixth of his three-year career. Sproat wore all three runs across six innings, giving up six hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Where it leaves both clubs
The win was San Francisco’s third in four games on the current homestand. Milwaukee, the National League Central leader, lost for just the third time in its past 10 games, and Garrett Stallings kept the deficit at three with two scoreless relief innings. The bats never answered.
It was the Giants’ third win in five meetings with the Brewers this season.
