A quick change of heart
Trey McBride heard the noise. A month after taking a shot at the Cardinals’ fan base, Arizona’s star tight end stood up after Saturday’s training camp practice and softened every word of it.
Back in June, on Will Compton and Taylor Lewan’s “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast, McBride argued that Arizona barely has a home crowd of its own. “Living in Arizona, no one’s from Arizona,” he said, pointing to a state full of transplants who still root for the teams they grew up with.

The walk-back
Saturday sounded nothing like that. “Yeah, I probably shouldn’t have said that,” McBride admitted. “It came out wrong, and obviously the fanbase is great. We have a tremendous fanbase.” He leaned into the apology, calling Arizona a special place and its supporters loyal across every sport in town.
He also handed them a promise. “I hope they love me too,” he said, adding that he wants to give the crowd something to be proud of this season.
Why his voice carries weight
McBride is not a bit player picking a fight. In 2025 he signed the richest contract ever given to a tight end, four years and $76 million, then justified it with 126 catches for 1,239 yards and 11 touchdowns. He led the Cardinals in all three, made a second straight Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors. When a player like that talks about the stands, Arizona listens, and this week he wanted a different message on the record.
