A hometown title for Korpatsch
Tamara Korpatsch grew up in Hamburg. On Sunday she won its tournament. The German beat Hungary’s Anna Bondar 6-3, 6-3 on the clay to take the WTA title in front of the crowd she has known her whole life.
It is the second WTA singles trophy of her career and comfortably the sweetest. Korpatsch broke early in both sets, kept her error count low and never let Bondar work a way back into the match.

Bondar ran out of road
The fourth seed reached the final on tired legs. Her semi against Elina Avanesyan had stretched to three hours and 29 minutes, a 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 marathon that drained her tank. Twenty-four hours later there was little left.
Korpatsch made her pay for it. She pushed Bondar deep behind the baseline, dictated the tempo and shut the door in straight sets without a wobble.
What comes next
The win lifts Korpatsch back up the rankings and hands her momentum for the North American hard-court swing. For a player who has spent years grinding on the edge of the top 50, a title on home soil is the kind of week that reshapes a season.
