A 21-year-old rewrites the 3M Open record
Jackson Koivun did not simply win his first PGA Tour title at TPC Twin Cities on Sunday. He posted 25-under 259, the lowest 72-hole total the 3M Open has ever produced, and he managed it with the best player on the planet chasing him down the stretch.
The 21-year-old closed with a 5-under 66 to finish three clear of Scottie Scheffler. For a player this early in his professional life, protecting a lead of that size against the world number one says more than any line on his scorecard.

Scheffler’s strange season rolls on
Scheffler was excellent and still lost. He carded 64 and 63 on the weekend, gained close to six strokes on the greens and reached 22-under, a total that captures the 3M Open in most years. His Sunday 63 ran straight into a hotter man.
It marked Scheffler’s fifth runner-up finish of 2026 against a single win, back in January at the American Express. Only Cameron Young, in 2022, has stacked up five seconds in a season across the past four decades. For the game’s dominant figure, the pattern is turning into its own story.
Where Koivun heads next
Hideki Matsuyama, Brian Harman and Chandler Phillips shared third at 20-under, well adrift of the leading pair. The final round became a two-man conversation, and the newcomer won it.
Koivun reaches the FedExCup Playoffs with a trophy, a target on his back and the attention of a player who rarely hands out praise. Scheffler admitted he had not yet watched the young man up close and wants to. He will get that chance before long.
