Tennis : Carlos Alcaraz plots his comeback, with Cincinnati in his sights
His name is on the entry list. Out since April with a right wrist injury, Carlos Alcaraz is expected to return to the tour at the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, held from 13 to 23 August. It is a key stop before the US Open, where the Spaniard will defend his title just days later.
That entry backs up the signs over the last few days. In Spain, several outlets were already reporting that the world No. 3 had all but put the injury behind him. He has not played a match yet, but Cincinnati now looks like the place where he will get back up to speed.
Four months on the sidelines
Alcaraz’s last official match came at the Barcelona tournament. After hurting his right wrist in April, he then pulled out of Madrid, Rome, Roland-Garros, Queen’s, Wimbledon and the Masters 1000 in Montreal. A long spell out has cost him valuable ATP ranking points.
His return is eagerly awaited on tour. At just 23, the Spaniard remains one of the main threats for the biggest titles, and Cincinnati offers the perfect chance to find his rhythm on hard courts before the New York showdown.

A stacked field in Ohio
As ever, the Cincinnati Open will bring together most of the best players on the planet. Jannik Sinner, fresh from his Wimbledon win, Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz are among the early entries for this edition, played on hard courts as part of the US Open Series.
In the French camp, Arthur Fils, Arthur Rinderknech, Ugo Humbert, Corentin Moutet, Adrian Mannarino and Terence Atmane will go straight into the main draw. British surprise Wimbledon semi-finalist Arthur Féry will also be in Ohio.
