That is how long Clara Burel needed. Not a set, not a tight scoreline she had to grind out, just 59 minutes and a 6-1, 6-1 win over Elsa Jacquemot that never once looked like turning.
Burel is in Iasi on a wildcard. She was ranked outside the top 500 when the week started. And in an all-French tie at a WTA 250 in Romania, she produced the most convincing tennis she has hit in nearly two years.

Jacquemot never got a look at the door
Burel took the first three games before her opponent had worked out what was happening. Cleaner off both wings, quicker to the ball, going after second serves instead of waiting on them.
6-1 in the opener. Then the second set arrived and did the exact same thing to Jacquemot, game for game.
No tight service holds. No stretch where the match hung. Burel simply took it, closed it, and walked off before the hour was up.
Back inside the top 500 on Monday
Top 500 sounds like nothing for a player who has been ranked more than 400 places higher. That is the point, though. Injury took the ranking, and rankings do not hand themselves back.
Burel’s tennis was never the problem. The body was, and then the rhythm went with it, and then the confidence followed the rhythm out the door. A week like this is how those three find their way back.
Iasi is not a title. It is a foothold.
Four wins, twenty losses
Jacquemot’s season, in one line. The French No. 3 has not put together back-to-back wins all year, and this was not the afternoon that changed it.
She was second to everything. No pattern worked, no read came off, and by the time she might have found something the scoreboard had already made the decision.
Confidence is a strange thing on a tennis court. Lose it and every slow start feels like a verdict, every miss becomes evidence, and an opponent hitting freely turns into an opponent you cannot touch.
