Allegri is Napoli’s new manager, and Milan are left looking for one
Napoli did not wait for the season to end before planning the next one. Massimiliano Allegri has quietly been working with sporting director Manna on the summer rebuild for weeks now. The only thing missing was the paperwork. On Thursday evening, it got sorted. Allegri’s contract with AC Milan, the one that tied him to the Rossoneri until 30 June 2027, was formally torn up, and the road to Naples finally cleared.
None of the substance is new. Napoli and Allegri shook hands on terms some time ago. They just could not say so out loud while the Milan side of things dragged on. President Aurelio De Laurentiis is expected to make it official within hours. The Livorno-born coach has put pen to paper through 2029.

Following Conte is where it gets hard
Allegri inherits a dressing room that just lived through the best of times. Antonio Conte walked away after two seasons, a fourth Scudetto in 2024-2025 and a third Italian Super Cup, lifted in Riyadh in December. Matching that is a steep ask. Then again, Allegri has built a whole career out of jobs exactly like this, and he once rattled off five Serie A titles in a row at Juventus. Napoli have not hired a caretaker.
Milan, for their part, are back to square one on the touchline after a single season with him in the dugout. They need a name, and quickly, if they want to haul themselves back into the Serie A conversation. Two clubs, two very different summers coming, and a transfer window that is about to get loud on both sides.
