Corentin Moutet hit with sanction after Queen’s episode
The moment did not go unnoticed in London. After his first-round win at Queen’s over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Corentin Moutet found himself at the heart of a row sparked by his post-match interview. A few days later, the Frenchman was sanctioned by the ATP.
The men’s governing body hit him with a $40,000 fine for comments deemed inappropriate. Moutet is already appealing the decision.
An interview that quickly got out of hand
It all started with a live post-match exchange after a tight three-set win. Asked about a key point and the pace of his opponent’s serve, the world No 36 slipped into an English swear word mid-answer.
Corentin Moutet has been fined $40,000 by the ATP for repeatedly saying ‘f*ck’ during his on-court interview in Queens.
He plans to appeal the fine.

When the reporter asked him to reset, Moutet did the opposite and played it for laughs, repeating the word several times to the delight of the London crowd. The interview was then cut short.

A hefty punishment by ATP standards
Under the ATP’s code of conduct, every breach involving inappropriate language can carry a financial penalty. In Moutet’s case, the bill comes to $40,000, which is close to what he earned at the tournament.
Knocked out in the next round by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Moutet is now challenging the decision. According to several reports, he has officially lodged an appeal. On social media, he had already reacted with a touch of irony, offering mock-apologies for what became a big talking point in England.
