Transfer talk: Glasner turns down Feyenoord and waits on Milan, Rossoneri step it up

AC Milan may already have its next boss lined up. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Oliver Glasner is the clear front-runner to take charge of the Lombardy club next season. The Austrian has reportedly already knocked back an approach from Feyenoord to keep the door open for a deal with Milan. That is a strong sign of how much the coach likes the project being sold to him by the Rossoneri hierarchy. Club owner Gerry Cardinale is said to have spoken personally with Glasner and is convinced he can put AC Milan back on the right track over the long haul.

Glasner arrives with a strong reputation built in Germany and England. His spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, capped by a Europa League title, boosted his standing across the European market. More recently, his work at Crystal Palace has underlined his ability to build a competitive side with a clear identity. Those are exactly the sort of qualities Milan chiefs are looking for as they try to move on from months of uncertainty over the club’s sporting direction.

Milan rebuilds, Glasner tipped to get the Rossoneri going again

AC Milan is coming off a disappointing season and wants to reset on solid foundations. The coaching decision is the first piece of a wider rebuild, which should also stretch into the summer recruitment drive. If Glasner does put pen to paper, he would inherit a squad in need of work and the kind of heavy expectations that come with a club used to challenging at the top in Serie A and in Europe.

For now, no official agreement has been announced between the two sides. But the fact Glasner has turned down Feyenoord to wait for Milan says plenty about how far the talks have gone. The next few days should be decisive as the Rossoneri close in on a much-anticipated appointment for their fans.
