Formula 1: Leclerc locked in at Ferrari as world title dream rolls on in Maranello

Formula 1: Leclerc extends at Ferrari, and the love story rolls on

It’s official. Charles Leclerc will keep the ride with Scuderia Ferrari. The announcement came a few days before the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix, a fitting moment for the Monegasque, who races the streets of his hometown in red. No exact length was given this time, unlike previous extensions, but the message is clear: Leclerc and Ferrari are in it for the long haul.

The 28-year-old has raced for Ferrari since 2019, having come through the Italian manufacturer’s academy in 2016, won the F2 title in 2017 and made his F1 debut with Sauber in 2018. Since arriving in Maranello, he has racked up eight wins and 27 pole positions. Solid numbers, sure, but still not enough to land the world title, the one prize that has driven his whole career. “I believe in this team more than ever,” he said in the official statement. “Together, we’ve shared incredible moments and tougher ones too, but I’ll keep giving absolutely everything I have to bring this team back where it belongs.”

Vasseur gives the nod, and the tifosi can breathe again

At Ferrari, team boss Frederic Vasseur didn’t bother dressing it up. “Charles has been part of the Ferrari family for many years already and this renewal feels completely natural to us,” he said. A short line, but it says plenty about the trust between the two men, who go back to their Sauber days.

For Leclerc, Ferrari has never just been an employer. “For me, it has always been much more than just a team. It’s the team I love and the one I dreamed of joining since childhood, and after all these years, it has become a second family.” Honest words, delivered just days before another Monaco Grand Prix that always means that bit more to him. The tifosi, meanwhile, can relax: their driver isn’t going anywhere.
