Transfer roundup: Real Madrid seal Dumfries and close in on Konate as the defence takes shape
Real Madrid made a statement on Tuesday. In the space of one day, Florentino Perez’s camp had all but sorted out next season’s defensive rebuild. According to Fabrizio Romano, an agreement has been reached with Denzel Dumfries to bring him to Madrid. The 30-year-old Inter Milan right-back has given his personal approval, and Real Madrid will trigger his 20 million euros release clause. Everything hinges on Florentino Perez being re-elected as club president, but this one is being treated as done and dusted.
Dumfries is coming in to cover for Dani Carvajal, who missed a large chunk of the season and whose future at the club is still up in the air. Inter Milan, for their part, are not standing in the way of a sale for the Dutch international, whose deal runs until 2028. Clean, quick and to the point — exactly the sort of move Perez likes when he decides to get a deal moving.

And Dumfries is not the only one. Earlier in the day, Real Madrid had struck a verbal agreement with Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool’s 27-year-old centre-back. The Frenchman, who had seemed set to extend his stay with the Reds, has instead chosen to leave as a free agent. That’s a major coup for Madrid, who would land a full international without paying a transfer fee. Again, it all depends on the outcome of the presidential election, but the message from Perez on Tuesday was clear: if he wins again, Real Madrid’s defence will look very different next season.
