Minnesota routs Phoenix and keeps the streak rolling
The Minnesota Lynx are making their intentions pretty clear early in the WNBA season. In the night from Monday to Tuesday, the Minnesota franchise thumped the Phoenix Mercury 111-77 to bank a fifth straight win.
That run has come against Toronto, Chicago twice, Atlanta and now Phoenix. With seven wins and just two losses, the Lynx have moved into the mix among the Western Conference’s hottest teams.
Courtney Williams takes charge
With Napheesa Collier out, Minnesota have leaned on a superb Courtney Williams. The guard delivered her best game of the season, finishing with 30 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists in just 29 minutes.
Her efficiency stood out. Williams hit 13 of 20 from the field and buried all three of her attempts from deep. A rare outing like that puts her among the quickest 30-point games in the league’s recent history.

No Napheesa Collier, no problem for the Lynx
Minnesota’s strong run is even more impressive because it has come without Napheesa Collier. Hurt in the left ankle during last season’s playoffs, the forward had surgery in January before going under the knife again in March, this time on her other ankle.
A natural MVP candidate this season, Collier is one of the main challengers to the Las Vegas Aces star in the race for the league’s top individual honour. Her absence is a major test for Minnesota.
The Williams-Miles pairing is doing the damage
To make up for that loss, Courtney Williams and Olivia Miles have taken on more of the load. The two guards have formed one of the most effective duos early in the season and keep giving opposing defenses headaches with their energy and chemistry.
Against the Mercury, they once again set the tone in a game the Lynx had under control almost from the start, leading by 27 at halftime. If Minnesota can keep producing at this level while waiting for its star to return, the franchise has every reason to think big for the rest of the season.
