PSG are wasting no time: Batrakov already close to signing
The season finished only a few days ago, but in Paris, nobody seems in any hurry to switch the lights off.
After lifting a second straight Champions League title at the end of a suffocating final against Arsenal, PSG have done what so few clubs have managed in modern European football: stay on top. And yet, in the corridors of power at the Parc des Princes, the euphoria has already given way to the next job. Planning what comes next.
Because the hard part often starts after the celebrations. Staying at the summit takes foresight, ideas and, every so often, a well-judged gamble. And that is exactly what the first move of PSG’s transfer summer now looks ready to be wrapped up.
A Russian talent who ticks every box
His name has been doing the rounds in European transfer circles for weeks. Aleksey Batrakov, 20, is regarded as one of the most exciting young players in Russian football right now. A young, creative midfielder who can turn a match on a flash of inspiration. In other words, exactly the sort of player PSG are after these days.
The rumours have been bubbling away for a while. This time, they appear to have turned into something far more concrete.
According to comments from his agent Dmitry Cheltsov on the Russian show Comment Show, the move to Paris is now just a matter of time. Talks between the two clubs are said to have progressed significantly, with several rounds of discussions over recent weeks bringing both sides much closer together.
The player`s agent has even sounded unusually certain. If you take him at his word, Batrakov’s chances of joining the European champions are huge. PSG and Lokomotiv Moscow are said to have been in constant contact, while Luis Campos is expected in Russia to tie up the final details.
In short, the deal appears to be in the home straight.
Try it for $0.99.
A season that caught everyone`s eye
You only have to look at his numbers to see why several clubs have been tracking his progress.
This season, Batrakov has been everywhere. Creator, provider, finisher. The young Russia international has posted 17 goals and 13 assists in 36 games in all competitions for Lokomotiv Moscow.
Those figures tell a simple story: a player who has become indispensable to his side.
But beyond the stats, it is his profile that stands out. Mobile, technical, comfortable between the lines and happy under pressure, he fits the modern attacking midfielder mould that Europe`s biggest clubs are now chasing.
PSG have been watching this kind of player closely for years. Their recruitment has gradually moved away from the galactico model and towards emerging talent. Players who can grow with the project, rather than just be added to it.
The first sign of a bold summer
The move could be done for around 25 million euros. A hefty fee, yes, but hardly outrageous for a player of this age and upside. The salary being discussed would sit somewhere between 5 and 6 million euros a season.
If nothing derails the negotiations in the coming days, Batrakov could become PSG’s first signing of the summer.
A first addition that says plenty about the club’s intentions.
PSG are not behaving like a side that has had its fill of success. Quite the opposite. After conquering Europe two years running, the European champions are acting like a team that still has a point to prove.
And that may be exactly what makes them so dangerous for everyone else.
