Domination at Dodger Stadium
Rookie pitcher Justin Wrobleski turned in a night to remember on the mound at Dodger Stadium on Friday. The left-hander helped the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2, and in doing so he drove his team to a sixth straight win, their best run of the season in MLB. Against one of the best arms in the league, Zack Wheeler, the young California starter set the tone for most of the night and came painfully close to making MLB history.
Kyle Schwarber’s blast ends the perfection
The no-hit dream lasted until there were two outs in the sixth. It was the powerful Kyle Schwarber who spoiled the party, launching his 22nd homer of the season, the best mark in MLB, over the centre-field fence. Wrobleski, who grew up backing the Chicago Cubs, admitted he knew the result the moment he saw the hitter’s reaction, bringing an end to a perfect run that had everyone watching on edge.

Velocity back up, and hitters paid the price
After a slight dip in his last few MLB outings, the left-hander got his mechanics back in gear. His fastball averaged 94.9 mph, well up on his usual numbers. That extra zip helped him set new MLB career highs with 9 strikeouts and 16 swings and misses, leaning on brutal efficiency inside the strike zone to shut down the opposing offence.
The Dodgers are in top gear for 2026
Manager Dave Roberts praised his young starter’s poise and the timely work of an offence that backed him with four solo homers off Wheeler. The win underlined just how much depth Los Angeles has for the long haul of the season. With this level of command on the mound and at the plate, the California leaders are sending a very clear message to the rest of MLB as the 2026 campaign rolls on.
