No Wimbledon for Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz wont be back just yet. Already out of Roland Garros, the Spaniard confirmed on Wednesday that he will also miss Wimbledon.
Still troubled by his right wrist, the Spaniard had been expected to return on grass in the coming weeks. In the end, he feels he simply doesnt have enough time to get back properly.
In a message posted on Wednesday, Alcaraz said his condition is improving step by step, but not quickly enough to return to the tour.
The Queens event, set for just before Wimbledon, is no longer on his schedule either.
It all started in Barcelona
His injury dates back to the Barcelona Open in the spring.
In his opening match against Otto Virtanen, Alcaraz felt pain in his wrist during a rally. At the time, nobody around him seemed to think the layoff would drag on this long.
But things soon went another way.
Madrid was first to go, then Rome. Roland Garros followed a few days later.
The Alcaraz camp was still hoping for a comeback on grass, but that timetable never really held up.
A tournament loses one of its big favourites
In recent seasons, Alcaraz had become one of Wimbledons main men.
He won the 2023 and 2024 editions before reaching last years final against Jannik Sinner.
This time, the London grass will have to get on without him.
