Freiburg – Braga: the moment of truth
Freiburg host the Portuguese side in the second leg of this continental semi-final. A one-goal deficit from the first game leaves the home side needing a full-on attacking masterclass. A place in the final would mean a first-ever European final for Freiburg. The pressure is cranked right up.
The German test
Last week’s cruel ending is still hanging over the squad. Vincenzo Grifo’s equaliser looked like it had secured a valuable draw. Noah Atubolu had even kept out a decisive penalty before the break. Then came the collapse in stoppage time, and Freiburg’s job got a whole lot harder. The spring schedule is showing no mercy. The painful German Cup exit and the hammering by Dortmund have knocked the confidence out of Freiburg. A late leveller against Wolfsburg has at least stopped the rot for now. Seventh place in the league almost certainly leaves Freiburg needing this trophy if they want Europe again next season. Still, their home record on the continent gives them real hope.
The resilience of the Lusitanian block
The Portuguese club arrive in Germany with a handy first-leg lead. Their domestic form backs up the work Carlos Vicens has done. Fourth place in the league gives them a solid platform. Mario Dorgeles has been chipping in with key goals for weeks. Even so, there has been a touch of inconsistency in Braga’s most recent outings. They have managed just two wins from their last five matches. Oddly enough, though, the Iberian side have looked rock solid in Europe when things get messy. They have lost only twice in their last 20 continental games.
Probable line-ups
Freiburg : Atubolu ; Treu, Ginter, Lienhart, Makengo ; Eggestein, Manzambi ; Beste, Philipp, Grifo ; Matanovic
Braga : Hornicek ; Lagerbielke, V Carvalho, Moscardo ; Dorgeles, Gorby, Tiknaz, Lelo ; P Victor, Zalazar ; Navarro

Football prediction Freiburg vs Braga
Both teams to score
The home side have to chase the game, and that should open this second leg right up. Freiburg’s pressing will leave plenty of room behind the defence.
Braga’s direct approach should punish those gaps. Both sides are likely to find the net by the end of normal time.

Before anything else, a word on our picks
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks obvious, it really isn’t. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, you will at some point.
- The smart move is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Don’t touch money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase losses, because that rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your day-to-day life, if it’s getting on your nerves or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if you need to, speak to a specialist service. That’s what they’re there for.
- At the end of the day, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and never goes away, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is banned for minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral quickly (money loss, family tension, addiction). Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. In plain English: you cannot use them to demand anything if a bet goes wrong.
Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time it is written. But then a team sheet changes, a player gets hurt, the weather turns… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your role
Before you bet, simply check that betting is legal where you are. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.
Responsible gambling first
We cannot say it enough: gamble in moderation. If you’re struggling to stay in control, don’t wait to get help. We cannot be responsible for compulsive or excessive use of the information published on the site.
Legal age
