Alcaraz keeps bossing it in the desert
Under California lights, Carlos Alcaraz reminded everyone why he’s run the start of the season. Up against Casper Ruud in the last 16 at the BNP Paribas Open, the Spaniard made his quality count.
From the first games, Alcaraz set the pace. Too quick, too exact — he blew past Casper Ruud, who never found his footing in that opening set.
The second set fought back. Ruud raised his level, stuck in rallies and dragged Alcaraz into a tiebreak. But when it mattered, the Australian Open champion kept his cool. Final score: 6-1, 7-6 in 1h29.
A clean, controlled win that leaves no doubt: Alcaraz has been virtually untouchable this year.

A special bond with Indian Wells
The California desert seems to suit Alcaraz’s explosive game perfectly. Since his debut in 2021, the young Spaniard has kept turning heads there.
That year he was stopped in round two by Andy Murray. Since then the path has been clear: semis, trophies and big moments on the center court.
With this latest quarterfinal spot, Alcaraz is one win away from a fifth straight semifinal at Indian Wells. That stat says a lot about his consistency at one of the toughest Masters 1000 events on the calendar.
Next up is Cameron Norrie, who’s been solid all week. It promises to be an intriguing clash — Alcaraz’s creative power versus the Brit’s steady baseline game.
Draper and Djokovic served up a spectacular showdown
If Alcaraz confirmed the pecking order, the night’s other match told a different story. Novak Djokovic against Jack Draper delivered on the hype.
On one side, a living legend — five-time winner here and still world No.3 at 38. On the other, the reigning champion, climbing and determined to keep his crown.
The first set went Serbia’s way. Opportunistic, Djokovic struck at the perfect moment, breaking in the final game to take the lead.
But Draper never panicked.
The Brit replied straight away in the second, finding aggression in his strokes and seizing control to level the match.
Draper hangs tough and topples the legend
The decider turned into a nerve-jangling scrap. Both men fired winners, and tension crept into every game.
The match produced 65 winners in total, proof of the ridiculous level on show from both players.
Draper even thought he’d finished it earlier, serving for the match at 5-4. True to his warrior rep, Novak Djokovic fought back, forcing the final set into a tiebreak. But in the ultimate showdown, Jack Draper held his nerve. The Brit prevailed after 2h35 of intense battle (4-6, 6-4, 7-6) and stretched his run to nine straight wins at the BNP Paribas Open.
Djokovic falls, Draper eyes the double
For Novak Djokovic the defeat stings. For the first time since 2023, the Serb has lost a best-of-three match after taking the opening set.
A stat that proves Draper’s mental grit.
Even in defeat, Djokovic left the desert looking every bit the champion. The Serb served up a solid display that proves he’ll still be a force this season. Meanwhile Jack Draper keeps rolling and will face Daniil Medvedev for a place in the BNP Paribas Open semifinals.
